Nursery Rhyme. CXCIX. Riddles.

    Ten and ten and twice eleven,
    Take out six and put in seven;
    Go to the green and fetch eighteen,
    And drop one a coming.

        [A Cinder-sifter.]

    A riddle, a riddle, as I suppose,
    A hundred eyes, and never a nose.

        [Gloves.]

    As I was going o'er London Bridge,
    I met a cart full of fingers and thumbs!

    One, two,
    Buckle my shoe;
    Three, four,
    Shut the door;
    Five, six,
    Pick up sticks;
    Seven, eight,
    Lay them straight;
    Nine, ten,
    A good fat hen;
    Eleven, twelve,
    Who will delve?
    Thirteen, fourteen,
    Maids a courting;
    Fifteen, sixteen,
    Maids a kissing;
    Seventeen, eighteen,
    Maids a waiting;
    Nineteen, twenty,
    My stomach's empty.

    Twelve pears hanging high,
    Twelve knights riding by;
    Each knight took a pear,
    And yet left eleven there!
